Bridges are important components of our infrastructure, serving the purpose of our road network. These structures must be safe for traffic, structurally sound and durable. Due to the constantly increasing traffic volume, especially the growing heavy-duty traffic, a continuous development of bridge structures is necessary. This development is incorporated into the planning of new bridge structures. The assessment of existing bridges is based on the recalculation with modified traffic loads. This may result in reinforcement measures for existing structures.
